Newsletter of December 5, 2022

2023 is wrapping up, and while my personal life has been busy with the arrival of my daughter Malida, my professional life has been just as active. I’ve been working on various software projects for businesses and institutions, both onsite and remotely. How about we team up for a project soon?

Kpler: pipelines and refineries

With Kpler, the French unicorn in economic intelligence specializing in energy, I’ve continued to develop features related to oil pipelines and refineries. The company is growing, and for me, it remains an incredible example of structure and best practices in creating complex software solutions.

Bridge maintenance system: 2nd phase

After an initial development phase, we teamed up again with JICA (Japanese Cooperation) for a second round of enhancing the bridge maintenance management system for Laos’ Ministry of Transport. We were able to rely on several months of user feedback, and the improvements are significant.

Urban data sharing platform

Still working with the Japanese cooperation, but this time on the urban development of Vientiane. I responded to a tender and got selected to set up a platform for exchanging geospatial data (urban development plans, city electrical cable layouts, etc.). I suggested using an existing solution, Geonode, which I adapted and deployed. Along with two colleagues, we proposed a design and conducted training sessions for the users.

Platform accessible here: https://virgo.mpwt.gov.la/

Technologies: Geonode, Django, Docker, Geoserver

Dashboard on grants activities for UN agency

Leveraging my experience from developing the geo-spatial dashboard for the World Bank’s loans and grants to farmers, I was approached to develop a similar system, this time through the United Nations agency IFAD. It’s about farmer groups, training sessions, irrigation projects, nutrition. I delegated the UX to my friends at The Studio, and on my end, I handled everything else: project management, software development, deployment.

The system can be found here: https://mapping.picsa.gov.la and content will come over the next weeks

System for the valorization of architectural heritage

With an aim to protect and enhance heritage, I’m working on cataloging modernist houses (1955-1990), and I’m starting a system with the Vientiane Modernist association that allows online exploration and documentation of these houses.

Secretary of the French Business Association

This year, I joined the board of the French Business Association as a secretary.

On the agenda:

  • organizing factory visits (Digital, Textile)
  • hosting expert meetings (international arbitration with Clifford-Chance, transport infrastructure with the World Bank)
  • engaging in discussions with local institutions (Lao Chamber of Commerce, French Embassy, KOTRA)

With the objective to create the French Chamber of Commerce.

In short

Here are some more condensed updates:

  • Maintenance on the system developed for World Education
  • Continuing work on laboratory digitalization with the Mérieux Foundation
  • Updating data for the Geotag platform (https://geotag.lacp-maf.org/main/country/laos)
  • Presenting my profession to students in bilingual classes in Vientiane and Luang Prabang

How can I help?
